Fall is a fun, festive time to decorate your yard and house with pumpkins and turkeys, and prepare for the little ones coming to get treats or tricks at your autumn-adorned door. 2 Sisters and a Brush, owned by sisters Michelle Hall and Kelly Porter, can help you prepare your home for that cool-weather, yummy-food season.

The Brookhaven sisters turn wood into cute and fun door hangers, frames, crosses, door hangers, candlesticks, coat racks, magnet boards, etc.

“We make a little bit of everything,” said Hall.

For fall, their best seller is the “Happy Fall Y’all” pumpkin door hanger. Also great for the autumn season are the sisters’ football-shaped door hangers, complete with local school mascot names. Their witch’s hat is a colorful door hanger for Halloween. This year, they’ve added a turkey yard stake to their fall merchandise.

“The fun part is coming up with something new,” said Porter.

When Hall became a stay-at-home mom after her last child was born, she and Porter, also a stay-at-home mom, decided they needed something to do.

“We wanted to be stay-at-home moms, but we got bored quick,” said Hall.

One Christmas, they made Christmas frames for their own homes, and others saw them and wanted them. The sisters made several frames that year for friends, and the business quickly evolved from a hobby into a full-time job.

Everything they make is from wood. They do all the work themselves, with Porter cutting all the wood. The business partners describe their style as whimsical, with fun patterns and lots of colors, following the distressed-look trend.

The sisters are only 18 months apart.

“We’re together all the time,” said Hall.

They said most people are surprised they get along so well.

“If we fight, it’s usually about work,” said Porter.

Hall said they have two totally different opinions.

“It’s good to get a different opinion on things,” said Porter.

Porter projects that the new trend for the fall is going to be houndstooth, a pattern they have started to include in some of their décor.

“Kelly’s the type of person that when she sees something, she says, ‘I can make that,'” said Hall.

Hall said her favorite thing about the fall is hunting season, as opposed to her sister, who’d rather just enjoy the weather. Hall has two boys and Porter has three girls.
