Services for Celeste Jamerson Robbins will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be at Riverwood Memorial Park. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A well-known resident of Brookhaven for many years, Mrs. Robbins passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. after a period of declining health. For the past four years, she had been in the care of her nephew, Marc Jamerson, and his wife, Antoinette, and family in their home in Trimble, Mo..

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Fern Jamerson; brother, David Jamerson; nephew, Daniel Jamerson; and great-niece, Cecilia Jamerson.

Celeste was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on Jan. 20, 1920. She received her undergraduate degree from Carthage College, in Carthage, Ill., and her master’s degree in piano performance from Louisiana State University. She came to Brookhaven in 1946 to teach piano at Whitworth College. She began her long career as church organist by playing at First Methodist Church for

three years, First Presbyterian Church for 25 years and at Faith Presbyterian Church from its inception in 1974 until her retirement on Dec. 31, 2007 – a total of more than 60 years of devotion and service through music.

She also had a long career as a teacher of both piano and organ and always maintained a large group of students of all ages. She was known for giving her students a solid musical foundation, which served them well in their pursuits in the music field. She took great joy in their accomplishments and formed a lifelong bond with many of them.

In addition to her love for teaching, she was always on call for weddings, funerals, accompanying vocalists and choirs, never saying “no” to requests for her service. Her talent was selfless and generous, coupled with a rare sense of humor and witty sayings.

Celeste took an active role in many community endeavors. As a member of Matinee Musicale, she served as president three times and performed often. She was also a valued member of Climbers Club, holding several offices; and she was a loyal supporter of Little Theatre both on and off the stage.

She was an avid reader, especially of the works of Dickens and other classic literature. She was an enthusiastic traveler and her love of all things British inspired unforgettable trips to the British Isles. Another memorable event was a musical summer spent in Europe. With her keen mind and insatiable curiosity, Celeste fully embraced life.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Jamerson; niece, Christy Edde (Jerry); nephew, Marc (Antoinette) Jamerson and their children: Nathan (Elena), Monica Golden (Michael), Jeanette, Mary Celeste, David and Nicholas; nephew Dan’s children: Dana de los Santos (Jason), Sam, Bridget Hay (Pat), Andrew, Greg (Erika); and 15 great-great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
