MONTICELLO-The Lawrence County Lady Cougars blanked Franklin County 10-0, in six innings, in slowpitch softball action Thursday night. Callie Fortenberry had a single and a triple, and drove in four runs, as Meleah Howard’s girls improved to 15-1-1 on the season.

Elizabeth Smith, Alexsundria Thomas, and Jamie Martin also had two hits each for Lawrence County. Alyssa Pendergrass, Jazmin Thomas, Cierra Horton, and Barri Rogers also hit safely. Rogers did the pitching for the Lady Cougars. It was Fortenberry’s third-inning two-run triple that blew the game open.

Franklin County biggest scoring threat came in the top of the third, when Macy Brabham, Alyssa Case, and Sierra Bethley had consecutive two-out singles. Shelly Case and Emily Smith also had hits for the Lady Bulldogs.

On Wednesday, at McComb, the Lady Cougars won a big Division 7-4A game, beating McComb 10-0, in five innings. With that win, Lawrence County improved to 5-0 in the division, setting up a division title match at North Pike next week. The Lady Cougars defeated North Pike 13-8 two weeks ago, in Monticello.

At McComb, Pendergrass led LCHS with three hits. Horton and Jazmin Thomas each had two hits. Rogers, Smith, Fortenberry, Martin, Alexsundria Thomas, Lexie Johnson, and Madison Hyde also had hits.

The Lady Cougars broke that game open with a seven-runs in the second inning.
