Wesson captures 7-3A crown

HAZLEHURST – The Wesson Lady Cobras captured their first Region 7-3A crown Monday night with a 9-5 victory over the Hazlehurst Lady Indians in slowpitch softball action.

“It is good to win the district and get to host the first round of the state playoffs,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson

The Lady Cobras (18-6, 5-0) will be in action today. Wesson is looking to stay unbeaten in the division race as they host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by varsity action at 6:30.

Wesson 9, Hazlehurst 5

The Lady Cobras managed to overcome a sluggish start to topple the Lady Indians in the fourth inning to claim a 8-3 lead and hold on for the win.

Cheyenne Gladden was the winning pitcher for Wesson.

Hailey Chassion was the offensive leader at the plate for the Lady Cobras with three singles. Aurianna Vaughn contributed a double and a single. Kaitlyn Smith and Sarah Robinson provided a pair of singles. Kayla Britt and Sabria Green had a double each.

Harmoni Ashley and Gladden hit safely.
