Lady Bears claim two victories

The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured two big victories Thursday in slowpitch softball action.

West Lincoln blanked the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats 8-0 in a early match in Bogue Chitto and returned home to skin the Lawrence County Lady Cougars 2-1 in a 11-inning marathon for the nightcap.

The Lady Bears (19-5-1, 6-0) resume action Tuesday. They will begin their first tour of the region 2A state playoffs and host the Bay Springs Lady Bulldogs for the opening round.

The Lady Cougars (20-3-1, 5-1) will also be in action Tuesday. They will start their march in the 4A state playoffs and entertained the Poplarville Lady Hornets in the opening round. The best of three series begins at 5 p.m. for the first game, followed by the second game and, if necessary, a third game.

West Lincoln 8, Bogue Chitto 0 

The Lady Bears came out strong and claimed an early 8-0 lead in the first three innings of action and relied on their tough defense to keep the Lady Cats off the scoreboard.

Heather Moak was the winning pitcher for West Lincoln with no strikeouts and three walks.

Brooke Myers suffered the setback for BC with no strikeouts and no walks.

Destiny Allen directed the offensive charge for the Lady Bears with a double and three singles. Alli Mullins contributed a double and two singles. Hanna Moak and Karley Smith provided a double and a single apiece. Layton Sills, Heather Moak and Malori Hall ripped a pair of singles. Micah Redd hit safely.

Zariah Matthews was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats with a double. Hitting safely were Christian Black, Brooke Myers and Alana Nettles.

West Lincoln 2, Lawrence Co. 1 

In a tough defensive bout, the Lady Cougars and Lady Bears battle back-and-forth in a one-all tie until the bottom of the 11th inning when senior outfielder Karley Smith came through with a game-winning sacrifice fly to score her teammate, Malori Hall, from third base.

Heather Moak tossed the win for the Lady Bears with no strikeouts and no walks.

Barri Rogers absorbed the setback for LCHS with two strikeouts and one walk.

Destiney Allen paced West Lincoln’s offense with three singles. Bentley Sills, Micah Redd, Heather Moak and Layton Sills provided a pair of singles apiece. Alli Mullins had a double and a single. Hanna Moak ripped a double and Malori Hall singled.

Jamie Martin was the top hitter for the Lady Cougars with three singles. Alyssa Pendergrass, Alexsundria Thomas, Cierra Horton, Lexie Johnson and Barri Rogers hit safely.

In JV action, Lawrence County edged West Lincoln 7-6.

The Lady Bears (7-4) were led on offense by Millane Lewis with a double and a single. Makennah Redd, Addie Springs and Destiny Wallace contributed a pair of singles apiece.

Hitting safely were Peyton White, Brittney Hill, Sara Jane Doty, Katelyn Travis and Demesher Deer.
