Lady Panthers thump Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers secured an 8-2 victory over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats to spoil BC’s senior night Thursday in slowpitch softball action.

Friends and family members gathered to recognize their BC seniors, Jordan McKinney, Mattie Avants, Earlnesheia Dillon, Marshonikique Blackwell, Jaide McKinney and Alexis Givens. They received showers of gifts and hugs from their families and friends.

The Lady Cats (14-12, 3-1) return to action today as they prepare to make a run in the 1A slowpitch softball state playoffs. BC visits Sebastopol in a battle of Lady Bobcats for a best-of-three series in the opening round. Game One begins at 4 p.m., followed by Game Two and if necessary, Game Three.

The Lady Panthers (16-9, 10-0) will be in action today to start their march in the 5A/6A softball state playoffs. Ole Brook hosts the Meridian Lady Wildcats in the opening round. Game One begins at 4 p.m., followed by Game Two and if necessary, Game Three.

Brookhaven 8, Bogue Chitto 2 

Ole Brook came out and set the tone in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead, but BC fought back to trim into the Lady Panthers lead 4-2 in the bottom of the first inning.

Brookhaven applied tough defensive to keep Bogue Chitto scoreless throughout the rest of the contest and increased their lead with two-runs in the second and sixth innings.

Alycen Speaks was the winning pitcher for Ole Brook with four strikeouts and one walk.

Mattie Avants suffered the setback for BC with no strikeouts and three walks.

Chantel Quarles and Alycen Speaks were the top sluggers for the Lady Panthers with three singles apiece. Kat Wallace contributed a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Jada Henderson, Haley Speaks, Raleigh Allen and Nikeshia Finley.

Christian Black provided the offensive charge to lead the Lady Cats with a double and two singles. Mattie Avants, Jordan McKinney, Earlnesheia Dillon, Mallory Allen and Colby Kirkland hit safely.

In JV action,  Brookhaven thumped Bogue Chitto 7-1.

Raleigh Allen pitched the victory for Ole Brook.

Brookhaven received a single each from Danielle Batteast, Kennedy Spiller, Madison Thompson, Cheyenne Motley, Nikeshia Finley, Fallon Brooks, Jada Henderson, Raleigh Allen and Kat Wallace.

Daley Roberts was the offensive leader for BC with two singles.
