John Daniel Coleman Sr.

Memorial services for John Daniel Coleman Sr. of Brookhaven are 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Mr. Coleman, 80, died Oct. 18, 2013 at home. He was born in Mississippi on May 5, 1933, to John Clarence and Jennie Belle Varnado Coleman.

He was retired from the oil field. He was known to business associates as John, and to his family as Dan. He served in the U.S. Army.

He loved his family, wildlife, especially turkeys and hummingbirds, nature, especially pine trees and cones, except when the pine cones were on the ground, gardening, cooking, fireworks, saving a buck, sunflowers, magnolias and laughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Lawrence Felix Coleman and James Paul Coleman; and a sister, Rachel C. Britt.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Juanita Phillips Coleman; children, Deborah Noel and husband, John, John D. Coleman Jr., and Sharon Theresa Beacham and husband, John Michael; grandchildren, Wes Guymon, Alex Beacham, Caitlin Danielle Beacham, and Sarah Sayers Greer; one great-grandchild; an especially close circle of four nieces and one nephew, Brenda Moak, Cynthia Davis, Judy Parker, Adrian Turnage and Marlin Coleman; along with many other nieces and nephews.
