Shirley graduated from BHS as the salutatorian of the class of 1947. She was voted “most athletic girl” as she played softball, volleyball, basketball and ran track. Her senior year she was the second fastest girl in the state of Mississippi in track. She qualified to try out for the Olympics in San Antonio Texas. Shirley continued her education for the next two years at “The W,” Mississippi University for Women.

On July 31, 1949, after a regular Sunday sermon she married Allen D. Boyd in an elegant wedding at Macedonia Baptist Church. After living in Elizabeth City, N.C., while Allen was in the Coast Guard, they came home and settled in to start raising their girls in the late 1950s. In July 1974 they purchased Shipps Flowers, and for 27 years she devoted her life to helping and pleasing her customers.

After the death of Allen in 1992, she married Leroy Campbell in 1998. They spent seven years traveling and RV’ing seeing sights she had only dreamed of such as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Canada, Alaska, all along the eastern coast and spending winters at “The Fun and Sun R.V. Resort” in Southwest Texas. They also enjoyed an adventure of over five weeks of boating down the Mississippi River from the mouth of the river to south Iowa.

Shirley taught Sunday School for more than 50 years at Macedonia and Meadville Baptist Churches.

In the last 10 plus years she has tirelessly devoted her time and energy volunteering for the Bude Thrift store and the Baptist Association of Franklin County.

She has lived her life serving the Lord and loving her family. She loved helping people, gardening and square dancing. Her beautiful smile will be greatly missed by many.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Kate Stanley, her husbands, Allen Boyd and Leroy Campbell.
