WL girls place third

West Lincoln’s Lady Bears sprinted to a third place finish in Saturday’s cross-country meet at West Lincoln. They were led by individual Lexis Leggett with a time of 18:32 in the 4K distance.

The varsity Bears finished fifth in the 5K distance. Leading West Lincoln was Jason Watts with a time of 17:35 in the 5K distance.

The West Lincoln junior varsity boys finished first in the 4K race, led by Matthew Geis’s 16:08. The JV Lady Bears also finished No.1, led by Jana Case’s 20:12 in the 4K.

Natchez Cathedral finished in first place the girls’ and boys’ meet. Brookhaven Lady Panthers placed second. The Panthers placed third in the boys’ event.

In a special one-mile run for fun for the elementary age group, Barrett Boyd finished in first place and Eli Williams was second in the boys event. In the girls race, Jona Hughes placed first, Maggie Newman, second; Jena Hughes, third and Alayna Mathis was fourth.

West Lincoln, coached by Jason Case, participates in the MHSAA State Championship Saturday, Nov. 10, at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Junior varsity girls:  Jana Case, 20:12; Georganna Allen, 20:45; Morgan Newman, 21:11; Skylar Hall, 22:39; Megan Gerald, 23:35.
