Brookhaven kickers off to a good start

The Brookhaven Panthers and Lady Panthers soccer teams are off to a good start after kicking off their season a week ago.

In last Saturday’s action at the Hansel King Sportsplex, the Lady Panthers participated in Loyd Star’s soccer tournament. The girls played Lawrence County and Franklin County.

The varsity Lady Panthers beat Lawrence County 5-0. Kat Wallace led the team with three goals. Andie Netherland scored one goal.

Brookhaven coach Kevin Bower captured his 200th win Saturday after the Lady Panthers shut out Lawrence County.

In the second game, Brookhaven (3-1) lost 2-0 to the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs.

In the junior varsity girls’ tournament games, Brookhaven battled McComb and North Pike. The junior Lady Panthers beat McComb 7-5. Dey Dey Lewis paced the offense for BHS (2-1) with three goals. Kat Wallace contributed two goals. Elaina Madison and Bree Allen scored one goal apiece. In the second game, BHS lost to North Pike 3-2.

In late game results, the BHS Girls junior varsity team Beat Loyd Star 2-1 Nov 14. Bree Allen and Breanna Smith scored one goal apiece for the Lady Panthers. In junior varsity boys’ action, BHS beat Loyd Star 1-0. Logan Emfinger scored the goal.

In varsity games, the Lady Panthers beat Loyd Star 5-0 on Nov 14 at the complex. Brookhaven was lead in scoring by Andi Netherland (2), Audrey Montalvo, Dey Dey Lewis, and Katie Grace Culpepper.

In the boys’ game, BHS and Loyd Star ended in a 3-3 tie. The Panthers’ scorers were Caleb Owens(2), and Quinn Cooper(1). Scoring for Loyd Star were Ryan Nevel, Bradley Archer , and Hayden Brownlee.

The BHS girls blanked Crystal Springs 7-0 on Nov. 12 season opener at the Hansel King Sportsplex. Andie Netherland (3), Kat Wallace (3) and Katie Grace Culpepper (1) paced the Lady Panthers offense. Brookhaven’s goalkeepers were Katherine Shell and Haley Jones.

In the boys’ game, the Panthers slipped past Crystal Springs 3-2. Quinn Cooper (2) and Darrius Pendleton were the top scorers for Ole Brook.
