Bertha ‘Mama Boot’ Browder

Funeral services for Bertha “Mama Boot” Browder of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Alexander Junior High School auditorium with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Browder, 83, died Nov. 22, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.
She was born in Brookhaven on June 22, 1930, to Charlie Batiest and Genevieve Batiest.
She was a 1948 graduate of Alexander High School and an employee of Stahl Urban Garment Factory.
She was a very soft spoken, loving person who loved children. She spent the later part of her life caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also loved by the many children in the neighborhood who referred to as “Mama Boot.”
Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Karen Brown; her sisters, Aline Arnold and Charliesteen Lewis, and her brothers, Robert Batiest and Homer Batiest.
Survivors are her daughter, Patricia McIntyre; her sons, Clyde (Annie) Browder and Christopher (LaRonda) Browder, and her brother, Michael (Sadie) Batiest. Other survivors are eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Her precious memories will linger forever in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and special friends of the family.
