Funeral services for Emma Frances Ogletree Gates, formerly of Ridgeland, are 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, with burial in Jessamine Ridgeland Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gates, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Brookhaven. She was born June 8, 1929, in Dixon, to Daniel Lockridge Ogletree and Lynda Mae Morrow Ogletree.
She was retired from Ridgeland Elementary School as a teacher’s assistant.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tommy Ogletree.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, William Jackson “Bill” Gates. She is also survived by her three children, Danny Gates and wife Debbie of Brookhaven, Dennis Gates and wife Mary Jean of Cleveland, and Sharon Shingleton and husband Boyd of Anderson, S.C.
Affectionately known as MeMa, she also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Michael and wife Faith Gates, Daniel Gates, Steven and wife Kayla Gates, Will Gates, Jennifer Gates, Victoria Shingleton and Rachel Shingleton, and four great-granddaughters, Emma, Lillie, Ruth Ellen and Mary Michael Gates.
The eldest of 13 siblings, she is survived by seven brothers, Sidney, Donald, Lamar, Dan, Allen, Zywon and Steve Ogletree, and four sisters, Margaret Arnold, Peggy Brantley, Beverly Durant and Belinda Gilmore.
Pallbearers will be Michael Gates, Daniel Gates, Steven Gates, Will Gates, Brad Ogletree and Rock Arnold.
A special thank you from the family is extended to her caregivers, Shirley O’Quinn, Faye Smith and Jo Newell, as well as the staff of Golden Living Center, and Dr. Ray Montalvo.
