Funeral services for David Henry Calcote of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at First United Methodist Church with burial in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 849 Natchez Drive.
Mr. Calcote, 82, died Nov. 28, 2013, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Calcote was a cattle farmer, timber grower, and retired teacher, having taught mathematics in Port Neches, Texas, Baton Rouge, La., and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. He graduated from West Lincoln High School and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, received his Bachelor of Science from the Mississippi Southern University and a master’s from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville. Following his graduation from Mississippi Southern University, he served in the U.S. Army Security Agency in Germany from 1954-56. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, serving on the Board of Trustees and as president of the Methodist Men’s Club. He was a member of the Lincoln County Forestry Association, the Wesson Lion’s Club, the Camellia Club, the Socrates Discussion Group, the Men’s Study Group and the Money Management Investment Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Calcote and Ruth Smith Calcote; brothers, Richard Calcote and Robert Earl Calcote; and sisters, Louise C. Moorer, Flora C. Byrd, Nellie C. Denman and Elsie C. White.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Cowan Calcote; his daughters, Linda C. Hehemann, of Little Rock, Ark., and Sue Calcote, of Greeneville, Tenn.; and his grandchildren, Will Hehemann and Ben Hehemann, Lachlan Bebout and Oona Bebout. He is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy C. Poole, of Memphis, James Calcote, of Gulfport, and Ruth C. Way, of Georgetown, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Douglas and Dennis Calcote and John Moorer, of Brookhaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church or to a scholarship fund at Co-Lin Junior College established specifically for a student planning to be a mathematics teacher.
