Lady Cats, Bears claim victories

BOGUE CHITTO – The West Lincoln Bears and the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats were victorious in basketball action Tuesday night in Bogue Chitto’s new gymnasium.
The Lady Cats continue their undefeated streak in their new gym as they hammered the West Lincoln Lady Bears 43-31.
In boys’ action, the Bears crushed the host Bobcats 87-47.
Bogue Chitto resumes action today as they host the Salem Wildcats for three games. The junior varsity girls tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games.
West Lincoln returns to action Saturday when they will welcome the Salem Wildcats for a pair of varsity games beginning at 6 p.m.
West Lincoln will also host a special event prior to the high school games for the Bears and Lady Bears alumni from past and present to relive their glory years on the basketball court. The alumni games will start at 1 p.m. for the former girls’ players and 2:30 p.m. for the former boys’ players.
Bogue Chitto 43, W. Lincoln 31
The Lady Cats came out and took control of the contest in the opening quarter and secured an 21-10 lead at halftime. BC managed to hold off West Lincoln’s second half surge to claim the victory.
Sophomore Karlie Williams was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats (6-2) with 11 points. Earlnesheia Dillon led on the boards with seven rebounds
“We must do a better on our free throws; we shot real poorly in that area,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Offensively, we must get more consistent.”
The Lady Cats finished 12-of-25 at the charity stripe, while West Lincoln was 8-of-13.
Lillianne Rushing paced the Lady Bears with a team-high six points. Layton Sills, Heather Moak and Hanna Moak contributed five points apiece. Layton Sills was the leader on the boards with six rebounds.
“It is the same old story,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We can’t shoot and we turn the ball over too much.”
W. Lincoln 87, Bogue Chitto 47
Sophomore guard Ronnie Edwards pumped in a game-high 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead the West Lincoln Bears (5-1). Senior Sam Bivens provided a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Duane Marshall chipped in with 10 points.
“I thought our defense was really good throughout the whole game,” said Young. “We managed to play a lot of people. We still need to keep improving game by game.”
Senior forward Dennis Rogers was the top scorer for the Bobcats with 15 points. Damien Terrell contributed 12 points.
In junior high action, Bogue Chitto and West Lincoln secured a split.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cats surpassed the Lady Bears 36-30. Jana Case paced West Lincoln with 15 points.
In boys’ action, West Lincoln rolled past Bogue Chitto 46-19. Dominique Chism and Nick Brumfield lead the team with 12 points apiece. Adam Martinez provided 11 points.
