WESSON – The Jones County Bobcats came into Wesson on Monday night and swept a MACJC South Division doubleheader from the Co-Lin Wolves. The Lady Wolves fell 69-64 and the Wolves went down 90-82.

The Lady Wolves (4-4, 0-2) have had some memorable battles against the Lady Bobcats (4-4, 1-1) over the last five years. In 2009, 2010, and 2011 the two programs met in the finals of the MACJC State Tournament. Monday night’s game will be one that head coach Gwyn Young hopes to forget as his young Lady Wolves team was dominated in the interior from the game’s opening tip.

The Lady Bobcats pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and were led in scoring by 17 points from forward Kaylan Hughes. Alyson Johnson and Kadie Parker chipped in 13 points apiece for Jones.

Co-Lin was led by 20 points from sophomore guard Ashley Minor. The Lady Wolves turned the ball over 23 times on the night. Claresa Banks scored 12 points and Keyana Miller put up 10 for Co-Lin.

The Wolves (2-6, -0-2) were facing an undefeated Jones (8-0, 2-0) team that has been averaging over 100 points game. The Wolves had periods of stopping the Bobcat fast break, but couldn’t put together enough offense to match Jones County.

Jones was led by freshman guard Thaddeus Hall with 17 points. Hall, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., was ejected late in the game after receiving his second technical. Jones also got 14 points from Leo Garrett, 13 from Ashton Woodson, and 10 points from Johnny Zuppardo.

The Wolves were led by a career high 21 points from freshman forward Jordan Lumpkins. Freshman guard LaJustin Anderson chipped in 19 points for Co-Lin.

The Wolves trailed by 13 at half and the Bobcats eventually grew that lead to 17. Co-Lin chipped away at the lead and cut the score to 80-76 with six minutes remaining, but could get no closer as Jones held on for the win.

The Wolves and Lady Wolves will take the rest of the week off for exams. They return to the court for their final games of the semester on Saturday, Dec. 14, when they travel to New Orleans to take on Delgado. The women tip off at 2 p.m. with the men’s game to follow.
