BA defeats Prentiss Christian

PRENTISS – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars took control from the opening tip Friday night to pick up their first win in district play with a convincing 52-18 victory over the Prentiss Christian Lady Saints.

In boys’ action, the BA Cougars roasted the Prentiss Christian Saints 52-32.

Brookhaven Academy will be back in action Friday night as they travel to Baker, La., to take on the Central Private Rebels and Lady Rebels for four games. The junior varsity girls tip off at 4 p.m., followed by the boys and two varsity games.

Brookhaven Acad. 52, Prentiss Christian 18 

The Lady Cougars (6-6) committed only three turnovers for the game allowing them to build on their early lead.

“We came out a bit slow but picked things up with our transition game in the second quarter,” said BA coach Mack Gardner. “We’ll take a few days off during exams and then get ready for our final two games before the Christmas break.”

Senior guard Madison Warren led the Lady Cougars with 15 points. Hillary Wilson added 11, and Lindsey Winborne chipped in eight points on the evening. Winborne also grabbed seven rebounds for ladies from BA.

Bayleigh Foster led the Lady Saints in scoring with 10 points.

Brookhaven 52, Prentiss Christian 32 

The Cougars (9-2) roared to an early 13-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they drilled the Saints for a 37-20 lead in three quarters of action.

Senior guard Zac Smith led the scoring charge for the Cougars with 18 points. Junior Peyton Hood provided a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Ethan Welch was the top scoring leader for the Saints with 10 points.
