Ole Brook splits with McComb

MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers captured a 47-34 victory over the McComb Lady Tigers Saturday night in the McComb Holiday Tournament.
In the boys’ game, the McComb Tigers managed to stay undefeated for the season as they knocked off the talented Panthers 56-47.
Brookhaven will resume action Friday as they prepare to invade Monticello to battle the Lawrence County Cougars and Lady Cougars for an unscheduled make-up game. The girls will start the action at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
Brookhaven 47, McComb 34
The Lady Panthers came out and played a lot better in the day two of the McComb’s Holiday tournament as they clobbered hosts McComb Lady Tigers (2-8).
In the first half, both teams battled in a tough contest as Brookhaven managed to claim a 24-22 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Panthers (8-6) came out firing on all cylinders as they outscored the Lady Tigers 23-12 to secure the win.
Kynitria Hill was the offensive leader for the Lady Panthers with 12 points. Diamond Herring contributed 10 points. Fredericka Fairman and Kynitria Hill lead on the boards with nine rebounds apiece for Ole Brook.
McComb 56, Brookhaven 47
The Panthers and Tigers rekindle their fierce rivalry as both teams battle in a tough defensive battle after one quarter of action the Tigers lead 17-16.
In the second quarter, the heavyweight bout continued as McComb held on to a 32-30 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers managed to capitalize on Ole Brook’s miscues to gain control of the contest in the third quarter with a 2-8 run and defended off the Panthers rally in the fourth quarter to stay unbeaten at 12-0.
With the loss the Panthers fell to 11-4 on the season.
Lonnie Lenoir, Fred Trevillion and Darrian Wilson were the offensive leaders for the Panthers with eight points apiece. Wilson paced Ole Brook on the boards with 11 rebounds.
“We had our opportunities, but came up short at the end,” said BHS coach Preston Wilson. “We had a very dismal third quarter, but did a good job fighting back to get within two points in the fourth quarter. Overall I was pleased with the guys effort they played really hard in a defensive contest.”
Shemar Williams directed the Tigers offense with a game-high double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Antonio Johnson contributed 10 points. Stacey Mack also helped on the boards with 10 rebounds.
