LCHS players receive Region 7-4A honors

The Lawrence County Cougars had five players to be selected on the 2013 7-4A All-Region Team. The players were Gebraun Smith, Tex Cole, Will Jackson, Michael Polk and Tony Maye. The Cougars are under the direction of first-year head coach Herbert Davis.

Coaches from the Region 7-4A classification gathered together and voted on the player selections.

Purvis senior wide receiver Markell Pack bagged the highest honor as he was chosen as the Most Valuable Player in Region 7-4A. Alex Woodall of McComb was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.

The Columbia Wildcats captured two huge honors as C.J. Newsome earned the Defensive Player of the Year. Columbia coach Walter Denton and his coaching staff was selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year.

Smith (5-11, 175, sr.), helped pace the LCHS Cougars with 204 yards receiving on 14 catches.

Cole (6-0, 185, soph.), was the Cougars leading rusher with 127 carries for 768 yards. He also contributed 27 defensive tackles.

Jackson (5-11, 230, sr.), stepped up in his role as the second string quarterback and helped the Cougars by completing 26-of-72 attempts for 430 yards.

Polk (6-0, 225, sr.), played a key role in Lawrence County offensive line. He was also a force on defense as he had 43 total tackles on the season.

Maye (5-7, 155, sr.), led all Cougar receivers with 469 yards on 28 catches. On defense, he played in the secondary and provided 12 tackles.

Offensive Player of the Year-  Alex Woodall, McComb.

Defensive Player of the Year-  C.J. Newsome, Columbia.

Coach Staff of the Year- Columbia.

North Pike-  Jalan Jackson, LaKendrick Lee, Austin Smith, Dalwin Henderson, Keldrick Dillon, Ethan Frith.
