Simpson Academy skins BA Cougars

MENDENHALL – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars suffered two straight setbacks Saturday night as the Lady Cougars lost in overtime to Simpson 43-40.
In boys action, the Simpson Academy Cougars claimed a 57-54 victory over the Brookhaven-based Cougars.

The BA Lady Cougars battled the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars tooth and nail before coming up short dropping the hard fought contest in overtime Saturday night in Mendenhall.
“I was very proud of our effort tonight,” commented BA head coach Mack Gardner. “We played solid from start to finish and good things will happen down the road if we come out every night and compete at this level.”
The Lady Cougars were led by Hillary Wilson’s 14 points on the evening. Madison Warren tossed in 13 adding to the BA total.
Molly Shotts led Simpson with 12 points and Maegan Griffith chipped in 11.

In the boys’ game, both teams came out and provided a tough, physical defensive contest as the score remained tied at 12-all after one quarter of action.
In the second quarter, Simpson managed to break loose from the close game outscoring BA 20-13 to take a 32-25 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Brookhaven outscored Simpson 29-25, but the Mendenhall-based Cougars managed to hold on for the victory.
Junior Peyton Hood and Senior Zac Smith were the offensive leaders for BA with 16 points apiece. Ethan Harris contributed 13 points. Hood directed the Brookhaven-based Cougars on the boards with 14 rebounds.
