Pleasant Hill Drive bridge to close Monday for repairs

District Three Supervisor Nolan Williamson has announced that county bridge No. 52 on Pleasant Hill Drive between Elm Lane and Moak’s Creek Road will be closed for repairs beginning at mid-morning Monday.
“The bridge only has a weight rating of six tons,” Williamson said, “and in District Three, we’re upgrading these bridges.”
Plans call for lifting the concrete bridge span and replacing the wood pilings underneath with concrete supports to allow the bridge to carry more weight, Williamson said.
The bridge repairs will likely take three weeks to complete, he estimated. The span will be shut down after school traffic has taken place Monday morning.
The supervisor estimates the cost for the county to upgrade the bridge will be approximately $35,000, which he said compares favorably to the $180,000 price tag for similar work by the state on state-aid bridges.
Williamson said more funds for bridge upgrades are much needed.
“That’s one of the things the supervisors are all pushing with the legislature this year is to put in a bridge repair program,” he said.
