Panther kickers claim tourney crown

The Brookhaven Panthers and Lady Panthers were the winners of the Ole Brook soccer tournament Saturday.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Panthers defeated Laurel in a shootout Friday night. In Saturday action, Brookhaven surpassed Lawrence County 4-1 and tied McLaurin 0-0.

In boys action, the Panthers lost to Laurel in a shootout Friday night. In Saturday action, BHS tied Lawrence County 1-1 and defeated McLaurin 4-1 to clinch the crown.

Brookhaven continues soccer action today as they prepare for a district game against Pearl. The Panthers and Lady Panthers will also be in action Friday at McComb. Kickoff begins at 5:30 for the girls, followed by the boys at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven 2, Laurel 1 

Brookhaven’s Fallon Brooks scored the only goal for the Lady Panthers to force a shootout against the Lady Golden Tornadoes.

Andie Netherland, Sarah Rice Warren, Haley Speaks and Brooks scored goals in the Lady Panthers shootout.

Katherine Shell was the Lady Panthers goalkeeper.

Laurel 3, Brookhaven 2 

The Panthers and Golden Tornadoes battle in a tough contest before having to go into an overtime shootout as the game ended in regulation tied at 2-all.

Logan Emfinger scored two goals for the Panthers. Ben Stroud and Caleb Owens had an assist apiece,

Zach Wilson was the goalkeeper for the Panthers.

Brookhaven 4, Lawrence Co. 1 

Brooks led the Lady Panthers (5-6-2) with two score goals. Andie Netherland and Branna Smith scored a goal each.

Haley Jones and Shell were the goalkeepers.

Brookhaven 1, Lawrence Co. 1 

Caleb Owen scored the only goal for the Panthers as the game ended with 1-all tie.

Wilson was the goalkeeper

Brookhaven 4, McLaurin 1 

The Panthers (2-7-2) dominated the Tigers to clinch the tournament crown. Caleb Owens, Jacob Bozeman, Logan Emfinger and Dalton Fortado paced Brookhaven offense with a goal each.

Wilson made several defensive stop as the goalkeeper.
