Pearl Pirates kick Brookhaven Panthers

The Pearl Pirates swept the Brookhaven Panthers in a pair of district games to clinch first place. The Panthers and the Lady Panthers secured second place in the region race.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Pirates blanked the Lady Panthers 4-0.

In boys’ soccer action, Pearl clobbered Brookhaven 9-0 Tuesday night on King Field.

The Lady Panthers has 5-7-2 record and the boys are 2-10-2 on the season.

Brookhaven will host North Pike for Senior Night Friday, Jan.24 at King Field.

Pearl 4, Brookhaven 0 

The Lady Panthers and the Lady Pirates battled in a close game as Pearl carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Brookhaven had a shot to break up the scoreless drought but missed a penalty kick to put the Lady Panthers on the board.

“We managed to keep the ball on their side of the field a lot in the second half, but we just could not take advantage of the scoring opportunities.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers will have to travel to Jones County to battle West Jones for the first round of the playoffs starting Jan. 28.

The Panthers will also be on the road for the first round as they visit Jones County as well. Currently, Laurel will be Brookhaven’s opponent as they are holding first place in their region race, but still have game remaining.
