SUMMIT-Lawrence County and North Pike split a Division 7-4A basketball double-header Saturday night at North Pike. In girls’ play, Lance Golmon’s Lady Jaguars got 29 points from Tatyana Turner in a 63-44 drubbing of the Lady Cougars.

In the boys’ game, Lawrence County broke out to a big first half lead and held on to beat the host Jaguars, 61-54. The games were originally slated for Friday, but were pushed back to Saturday due to inclement weather.

In girls’ action, North Pike staked its claim as a legitimate division title contender by handling the Lady Cougars. North Pike led 18-10 after one quarter, and continued to pull away. Turner piled up points throughout the night, hitting four 3-pointers.

Rickera Martin and Rudy Brown also netted double figures, with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. The Lady Jaguars improved to 13-4 overall, and 4-0 in the division.

Haven Johnson led the Lady Cougars with 14 points. Briana Errington and Latasha Rhodes each had 7. Zipporah Baylis added 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Making her first varsity appearance of the season, senior Shayla Kees also pulled down 9 rebounds.

Vicki Rutland’s girls fell to 6-18 overall, and 3-2 in Division 7-4A play.

McComb appears to be the class of Division 7 in boys’ play, but Lawrence County staked an early claim to second place with Saturday’s win over North Pike.

Lawrence County jumped out to a 34-13 first half lead, largely on the strength of 6’7″ freshman Keyshawn Feazell. Feazell scored 11 first quarter points en route to an 18-point, 13-rebound, 7-blocked shot night.

Gabriel Lewis added 13 points, and Keith Davis scored 12. Gaylon Pittman had 8 points and 8 rebounds. LaBrian Bass had 5 blocked shots. Pat Bridges’ Cougars improved to 8-13 overall, and 4-1 in the division.

Xavius Turner led North Pike with 17 points, and D’Hendrick Wells added 15. Keith Russ’ Jaguars fell to 11-6 overall, and 2-2 in the division.

Lawrence County resumes division play Tuesday night at Purvis. North Pike travels to South Pike, with first place in the division on the line, in the girls’ game.
