Bay Springs defeats Lawrence Co.

BAY SPRINGS-The Bay Springs Bulldogs defeated Lawrence County 51-39 in boys’ high school basketball action Saturday night, a part of the annual Bay Springs Shootout. Corey Mackey’s Bulldogs, who are rolling through Division 8-2A with an 8-0 record, improved to 16-9 overall with the win.
Lawrence County led 10-6 after one quarter, but a disastrous second period left the Cougars trailing 25-15 at halftime. LCHS cut the Bay Springs lead down to 6 points in the third quarter, but couldn’t get any closer.
Pat Bridges’ Cougars fell to 9-14 overall. Lawrence County is 5-1 in Division 7-4A play, heading into tonight’s game at McComb, where they will face one of Mississippi’s top-ranked teams.
Bay Springs was led by Jonnas Spivey (17 points) and Bruce Stevens (16), who together accounted for 33 of the Bulldogs’ 51 points. Keith Davis and Phillip Moore led Lawrence County with 10 points each. Gabriel Lewis added 8 points, and Gaylon Pittman pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds.
In the girls’ portion of the Shootout, Bay Springs improved to 18-8, with a 57-47 win over Stringer.
