Bogue Chitto crushes MSD

JACKSON – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats and Lady Cats are on fire, riding a six-game winning streak after knocking off the Mississippi School of the Deaf Bulldogs Thursday night in Region 7-1A basketball action.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cats roared past the Lady Bulldogs 68-26.
In boys’ action, the Bobcats thumped the Bulldogs 59-44.
Bogue Chitto returns to action Saturday as they prepare to invade McLaurin to battle the McLaurin Tigers and Lady Tigers. The varsity girls will tip off the action at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.
Bogue Chitto 68, MSD 26
The Lady Cats (19-5, 8-2) came out strong and quickly took care of business as BC climbed out to an 26-7 advantage in the first quarter and rolled to an 40-16 lead at halftime.
Zariah Matthews and Karlie Williams provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Cat with 15 points apiece. Shakirianna Jefferson and Christian Black continued the onslaught with 12 points each. Terrah Nelson was the leader on the boards with 10 rebounds. Black helped with eight rebounds.
“I am pleased to get the win,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “It was great to give everyone a lot of playing time in this district game.”
Bogue Chitto 59, MSD 44
The boys contest was similar to the girls’ game as the Bobcats (9-15, 6-4) continued to ride their hot winning streak by blasting the Bulldogs 22-7 in the first quarter and continued to run wild to take a 43-26 lead into halftime.
Jeremy Blackwell was the offensive leader for the Bobcats with 16 points. Damien Terrell and Dennis Rogers contributed 11 points apiece. Terrell paced the Bobcats on the boards with eight reounds.
“Great to get the win,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “The guys played hard and it was good to give everyone some playing time.”
