WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack golf team had a banner year winning the 2013 MACJC State Championship. With only two experienced sophomores returning from the 2013 team, the Wolves will look at defending their title.

Lost to graduation is Co-Lin’s most decorated golfer, Corbin May. May captured medalist honors in the MACJC State Tournament and the NJCAA Region XXIII Tournament. The NJCAA All-Region golfer also took home the Hubert Tucker Award for the lowest scoring average in the state for the year. May and teammate Alex Clark were named to the MACJC All-State First Team. Clark and Austin McFarland also were lost to graduation.

The Wolfpack also excelled in the classroom finishing as the NJCAA’s No. 18 Academic Team of the Year. Head coach Ronny Ross was named MACJC Coach of the Year, MAC Coach of the Year, and Eaton Golf Pride Central Region Coach of the Year.

Returning sophomores Austin Schillaci of Elmwood, La. and Connor Barnes of Prentiss will be counted on to lead a talented freshmen class that includes Gregory Causey of Petal, Ryan Desormeaux of Broussard La., Will Lee of Brookhaven, and Taylor Jelks of Hattiesburg.

Ross feels like his team will have enough talent to make another state title run in 2014.

“With the experience my two sophomores have and the good rounds we got out of them last year and the addition of a talented group of freshman, I feel like we should be right back in the thick of things this season,” said Ross.

The Wolfpack play their first MACJC event on Feb. 9-10 at Great Southern Golf Club in Gulfport hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
