Funeral services for Clara Augusta Vernon Williams of Amite, La., and formerly of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Brookhaven Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at 1p.m. at Old Amite Cemetery in Amite, La. Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Williams, 96, died peacefully Feb. 14, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Candor, N.Y., where she had been cared for her last nine years. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Amite to the late Tell Vernon and Virginia Harrison Vernon.

She was a homemaker and attended Matthews Chapel Methodist church of Wesson. The family said, “Our loving Mother Clara took care of her own Mother Virginia for over 20 years, who died in her arms at the age of 95.” She will forever be loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Augustas Williams Jr.; and her son, Richard “Dickie” Williams.

Survivors are her two daughters, Ann Williams Gaspard of Candor, N.Y., and Catherine Williams Jordan of Sumrall; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
