She was a retired clinic and scrub nurse for Dr. Louis Wilkins. She loved this work and she excelled at this. As her illness progressed she gave up her profession and became a full-time homemaker. She loved her family and church family. There was a special place in her heart for teenagers. She was very involved with the youth group in her church, and taught the morning and training union youth classes with her husband David at New Prospect.

When her health deteriorated due to rheumatoid arthritis, she was unable to physically attend services. Instead, she read her bible daily and prayed for all several times a day. She was a seed-planter for Jesus and a wonderful example of loving the Lord.

She enjoyed painting, bird watching, flower-gardening and crocheting. She loved her three children and her grandchildren. Her sense of humor, even when her pain was great, always put a smile on everyone’s face.

Mrs. Peavey was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Billy Alexander; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Freeman and Lou Annie Peavey; and her sisters-in-law, Peggy Griffin and Joy Peavey.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, David Peavey; her children, Mark Peavey of McComb, Lisa Calcote and husband Barry of Wesson, and Laura Barrington and husband Steve of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Rachel Peavey, Kaitlyn Calcote, Bailey Calcote, Lane Calcote and Carson Barrington; her brothers, Mike Alexander of Lena, La., and Tommy Alexander and wife Joann of Alexander, La.; a stepbrother, Charles Paxton of Pierre Part, La.; her stepmother, Shirley Alexander of Pierre Part; and her brothers-in-law, Billy Peavey and wife Virginia of Brookhaven, and Danny Peavey and wife Jo of Cameron, N.C.

Pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Kevin Smith, Adam Smith, Wally Tarver, Ray Allen, George Laird, David Martin and Bill Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be her former youth students.
