Hinds AHS secures region sweep

BOGUE CHITTO – For the three years in a row, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats and the Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs have clashed for the girls’ Region 7-1A crown. Saturday’s match-up was the usual battle between the two heavyweights contenders as the Lady Bulldogs managed to escape with a 54-44 victory over the Lady Cats at the Bobcat Palace.

In BC boys’ action, the Bobcats suffered a heartbreaking 77-75 defeat to the Pelahatchie Chiefs in the consolation game.

In the other tournament game, the Pelahatchie Lady Chiefs beat Natchez Cathedral 69-48 in the girls’ consolation contest. In the boys’ title match, Hinds AHS hammered the St. Aloysius Flashes 76-41.

Bogue Chitto will be in action this week as the Lady Cats host the Dexter Lady Bulldogs Monday. Game time is 7 p.m. The boys travel to Walthall County to take on the Salem Wildcats Tuesday. Tip off is at 7 p.m.

Hinds AHS 54, Bogue Chitto 44 

The Lady Cats and Lady Bulldogs have no love lost between the two as both teams came out and fought hard for the Region 7-1A girls’ crown.

After one half of action, the Lady Bulldogs carried a 22-20 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the physical battle continued as the Lady Cats managed to outscore Hinds AHS 24-19 but fell short at the end on their comeback

Erica Harris was the top shooter for the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points. Octavia Barnes chipped in with 17 points.

Sophomore guard Zariah Matthews directed the Lady Cats’ offense and defense with a team-high 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Mattie Avants provided assistance with eight points and four rebounds.

“The girls played extremely hard,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “The effort was there, but yet we struggled to make baskets throughout the game. Now, we must regroup and focus on Monday night game against Dexter.”

Pelahatchie 77, Bogue Chitto 75 

The Chiefs and Bobcats provided an offensive shootout for their basketball fans Saturday as BC carried a 41-39 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Pelahatchie just barely outscored Bogue Chitto 38-34 to slip pace the Bobcats in a slim victory.

Eli Holmes powered the Bobcats with a team-high 26 points. Brock Roberts contributed 15 points. Dennis Rogers netted 13 points and Damien Terrell had 12 points.

Kendrick Stoke provided a hot shooting performance for the Chiefs with a game-high 34 points. Cameron Moore chipped in 12 points. LaChaz Irvin scored 10 points.

Pelahatchie 69, Cathedral 48 

The Lady Chiefs had four players scoring in double figures as Brittany Thompson led with 16 points. April Ticer and Janae Collier contributed 13 points apiece, and Jequila Beeman added 10 points

Elizabeth Smith paced the Lady Green Wave with 14 points. Caroline Smith chipped in 11 points and McKenzie Watts had 10.

Hinds AHS 76, St. Aloysius 41 

Sterling Joiner led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points. Jarius Smith added 13 points.

Matthew Foley carried the Flashes’ offense with 11 points. Conner Smith provided 10 points.
