Lawrence Co. clobbers Enterprise

MONTICELLO – Sophomore Elizabeth Smith showcased a strong pitching performance for Lawrence County, collecting six strikeouts and two walks, as the Lady Cougars overwhelmed the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets 13-0 Friday night in softball action.
“We did a great job overall from pitching, hitting and on defense,” said Lawrence County coach Meleah Howard. “I was very pleased with the team’s effort. It felt good to have some dry weather and to be on the field playing.”
Lawrence County (3-0) returns to action Thursday as they prepare to host the Brookhaven Lady Panthers. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by varsity action at 6:30 p.m.
Enterprise, coached by Ashley Jones, resumes action Monday as they travel to Bogue Chitto to participate in the Lincoln County tournament. The Lady Jackets take on Bogue Chitto at 7 p.m. for a varsity game only.

The Lady Cougars and Lady Jackets were excited to get back in action after several days of wet of weather this week. Lawrence County had no problems knocking off the rust as they hammered Enterprise with a 13-run explosion in the first inning and held on to gain the victory in five innings of action.
Jamie Martin powered the Lady Cougars with two doubles. Alyssa Pendergrass and Jazmin Thomas contributed a pair of singles. Tiera Collins had a triple. Hitting safely were Lexie Johnson, Alexsundria Thomas, Carlie Fortenberry and Elizabeth Smith.
Haley Nation suffered the setback as the starting pitcher for the Lady Jackets with no strikeouts and three walks. Carlee Nations saw some action in relief collecting four strikeouts and three walks.
Carley Polk directed Enterprise’s offense at the plate with a double.
