South Jones skins Wesson

WESSON – The Class 5A South Jones Braves traveled to the small town of Wesson Friday night and handed the Class 3A Wesson Cobras a 4-2 loss in high school baseball action.

Braves pitcher, junior Mason Strickland, brought the heat by overwhelming the Cobras with a total of 10 strikeouts and only three walks. Strickland had one single with one RBI.

Senior Clint Sasser secured the save for the Braves with two strikeouts. He was the top hitter of the night for South Jones with three singles.

The Braves had seven hits off Wesson pitcher junior Mack Smith, who averaged four strikeouts and two walks.

The Cobras fought hard offensively with several hits but left men stranded on the bases. Top hitters for the Cobras were juniors Tyler McLeod and Justin Boone with a double apiece.

Boone’s double sent freshman Preston Middleton home after he hit a single.

Senior Jace Alexander was consistent with two singles and scored when senior Austin Crow hit a single. Wesson also got singles from Conner Lowery, Jimmie McQuage and Matthew Burns.

The Cobras will return to action Tuesday in Monticello as they participate in Lawrence County’s Spring Break Invitational. Wesson battles Bogue Chitto at 12:15 p.m.
