Bears capture two victories

BOGUE CHITTO – The West Lincoln Bears secured two big victories in the Lincoln County Invitational tournament Saturday in baseball action at Bogue Chitto.
The Bears survived a offensive marathon in their first game defeating the McComb Tigers 15-8. In the nightcap, West Lincoln rallied to beat their archrivals, the Bogue Chitto, 8-4 in the last two innings of play.
The Bears (4-1) will be in action Thursday in Monticello as they take on the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave in Lawrence County’s Spring Break Invitational. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
West Lincoln 15, McComb 8
Tanner Boutwell was the winning pitcher for the Bears with six strikeouts and two walks.
Jamiah Andrews took the loss for the Tigers with two strikeouts and one walk.
Jeremy Burns smashed a Grand Slam home run and had single to lead the Bears. Brady Wilson and Loftin Sills also powered West Lincoln’s offense with a home run and a single apiece. Boutwell fueled the flames with four singles. Alex Neal contributed a double and two singles. Chase Buckles provided three singles. Bryce Temple had two singles. Tyler Moak ripped a double. Ty Forman hit safely.
Carlos May, Ladarrious Young and Jatterius Wilson directed the Tigers at the plate with a pair of singles each. Marquel Carroll hit a double and Corey Lewis singled.
West Lincoln 8, Bogue Chitto 4
The Bears and Bobcats renewed their rivalry in baseball as Bogue Chitto quickly set the tone of the contest by grabbing a 3-0 lead in the first four innings of action.
In the top of the sixth inning, West Lincoln battled back to claim a 4-3 lead but BC answered in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game at 4-all.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Bears continued their hot hitting streak and managed to push across four runs to capture the lead and held on for the win.
Jeremy Burns pitched the win for the Bears with four strikeouts and three walks.
Steven Ginn suffered the setback for the Bobcats with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Neal and Wilson were the offensive leaders at the plate for the Bears with a double and a single apiece. Burns and Temple provided a pair of singles each. Sills had a double. Hitting safely were Boutwell, Moak and Forman.
Landon Roberts paced the Bobcats’ offense with three singles. Tucker Lambert, Brooks Ingle, Keith Wells, Connor Douglas and Ginn hit safely.
