Funeral services for G. Elton Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Holly Springs Baptist Church with burial at the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service. He will lie in state at the church on Friday from 1 until 2 p.m.

Mr. Smith, 77, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Baptist Hospital. He was born on Feb. 19, 1937, to John W. Smith and Gladys Turnage Smith.

He was a mechanic, electrician and welder and was a member and Deacon of Holly Springs Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Nancy Smith, second wife, Elaine Harris Smith; brother, Gordon Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Arianna and Kevontay.

Survivors are his sons, John Curtis Smith and wife Anita Jones Smith, and Heath Smith; daughters, Susie Alonzo, Betty L. Walker; 10 grandchildren, Kionna Jett Ray, Thuan Jett, Tamika Jett, Yannick Jett, Amanda Archer, Julie Jones, Caitlin Smith, Johnathon Smith, Tommy Harris, Kim Kennedy; and 24 great-grandchildren.
