DAILY LEADER / SCOTT BOYD / Brookhaven Academy’s Zach Dickerson fanned 10 and allowed just three hits Tuesday night as the Cougars blanked visiting Adams County Christian School.

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars wanted to kick off their district play on a good note Tuesday night, and behind a solid pitching performance from junior Zach Dickerson they rolled to a 4-0 shutout of the ACCS Rebels.

BA plated two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second then Dickerson held the Rebels at bay from that point on.

“Zach (Dickerson) was solid tonight on the hill. He found a rhythm and we played good defense behind him,” said BA head coach Casey Edwards. “We played a lot more aggressive tonight and finally put some pressure on our opponent. That changes the whole approach to a ballgame.”

Jacob Boyd doubled for BA, Parker Myrick and Dickerson each singled adding to the Cougar total. Steven Williams provided support with two RBI’s on the night.

Dickerson struck out 10 in his seven innings of work and issued just one base on balls. Wade Simpson absorbed the loss for ACCS.

BA JV pounds ACCS

The BA Junior Varsity Cougars exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning and added two security runs in the third and cruised to an 8-1 victory over the ACCS Rebels.

William King, Lamar Lang and Madison Smith each had doubles for the Cougars. Fisher Warren added a single to the BA total. Smith picked up the victory striking out five in relief of Warren. Trey Fleming took the loss for ACCS.

BA will travel to Natchez on Friday to complete the district series with the Rebels. Junior Varsity first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm. The Cougars will be back in home action Saturday verses Tri-County Academy. JV’s first pitch is at 1 p.m. followed by Varsity action at 3 p.m.
