Lady Wolves receive post-season honors

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln freshman Claresa Banks, sophomores Jessica Wilson and Ashley Minor and Jessica Wilson have received post-season basketball honors.
Banks, a freshman from Jackson, has been selected NJCAA All-Region 23 and the MACJC First Team All-State. She had a standout season for the Lady Wolves leading the team by averaging 16.4 points per game. She also led the team in rebounds (6.0) and steals (2.2) per game. The former Forest Hill Lady Patriot scored in double digits in 21 of Co-Lin’s 25 games. She put up a career high of 28 against Jones on Feb. 3. She pulled down a season high 22 rebounds on Feb. 13 against East Central. Banks started all 25 games and was twice named MACJC Player of the Week.
Wilson, a sophomore forward, was named to the 2014 NJCAA All-Region 23 Team. She started in 24 of 25 games for Co-Lin. Wilson averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The Hattiesburg High product scored a season high 17 points against Baton Rouge on Nov. 11 and twice pulled down a season high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Ashley Minor was named MACJC Second Team All-State. She finished second on the team by averaging 12.5 points per game this season. The 5-foot-6 guard was second on the team with a 5.0 rebounds per game average. The Natchez native also led the team in assists by averaging 2.4 a game. Minor was named MACJC Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 27-Feb. 1. For that week she averaged 21 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Minor, who was also named to the NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament Team, will play for the South in the MACJC All-Star Game on Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. at East Central Community College in Decatur.
The Lady Wolves and head coach Gwyn Young finished 17-8 on the year and continued a streak of consecutive winning seasons that started in 1981.
