Ole Brook places first in Invitational

The Brookhaven Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted and won the overall team rankings in a 16 event Saturday at the Brookhaven Invitational Track and Field meet.

Eight different schools participated in the invitational: Lawrence County, West Lincoln, North Pike, Amite County, Hazlehurst, Natchez Cathedral, Florence and Magee.

The Lady Panthers A-team posted a 183 in the standings and the Ole Brook’s boys A-Team finished with a 172 score.

In the girls’ individual events, Lady Panthers: Waverli Culver placed second in the girls long and high jump events and finished first in the 100-meter hurdles. Diamond Herring finished second in the girl’s triple jump and 800-meter run, and third in the shot put. Fredericka Fairman placed first in the girl’s high jump.

Arancy Arnold came in first for the girl’s 1600-meter run and second in the 400-meter dash. Sherielle Byers finished third in the discus throw. Jamese Robinson finished first in 3200-meter run and second in girls 1600-meter run; Jerricka Williams placed first in the 100-meter dash. Johnaya Williams finished first in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash. Mya Washington placed first in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the girls’ team event, the Lady Panthers finished first in the 100-meter and 400-meter relays and second in the 200-meter relay.

In boys’ individual events, Ole Brook’s Randy Wilson placed first in the long and high jump events. Kiantrel Thomas placed third in the long jump and 800-meter run. Chris Calcote finished first in the discus throw and shot put. Tyler Thomas was second in the shot put. Darius O’Quinn came in second in the discus throw and third in the shot put.

Alunddis Brice was third in the discus throw. Shuntez Smith placed first in the triple jump and 100-meter dash. Ben Robinson took third in the 100-meter dash. Tajah Black came in third in the 300-meter hurdles. Scottie Tate finished third in the 400-meter dash. Tre McDaniel was third in the 200-meter dash.

In boy’s team event, Brookhaven finished first in the 4×100-meter relay, second in the 4-400-meter relay and third in the 4×200-meter relay.

West Lincoln’s sophomore Jason Watts represented the Bears at Saturday’s Invitational. He ran in the boys’ 3200-meter race and finished third. This was a first time in a long time that West Lincoln participated in a track and field event during the spring. West Lincoln is known to have a cross-country team that runs in the fall in the area. Hopefully, Watt’s efforts will help spark more interest.
