Lady Bulldogs surpass Wesson

WESSON- The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs (6-8-0) traveled to Wesson Thursday night to challenge the Lady Cobras (8-3-1) in 3A Region 7 softball action.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to keep a close reign on the Lady Cobras to prevail 7-2.

Franklin County will host Enterprise today in Meadville with a game time of 7 p.m.

The Lady Cobras will travel to Tylertown Tuesday, to play the Tylertown High School Lady Chiefs with the junior varsity game starting at 5 p.m. and varsity action at 6 p.m.

Franklin County 7, Wesson 2 

The Lady Bulldogs ruled the night and defeated the Lady Cobras in a 7-2 win.

Franklin County coach, Dana Smith, replied after the game, “It was a good district win for us. The girls hit the ball well and this is the first time we have beat the Lady Cobras on this field.”

The Wesson batters managed to only get four hits off Franklin County’s south paw pitcher, Harley McKay, who averaged eight strikeouts and three walks. McKay also was the top hitter by getting on base with a double and a single.

Macy Brabham closed out the first inning with a double play sending the Lady Cobras back to the field with no runs. Brabham averaged four outs for the night and hit a double and a single while at bat.

Shelby Smith was another top defender that averaged three outs, two of which were a double play to end the game. Other Lady Bulldog hitters were Kaslyn Kent- 2 singles, 1 double, Jamecia Starks- 2 singles; and a single each for Alyssa Case and Sierra Bentley.

Lady Cobras’ pitcher, Carrie McSweyn, had one strike out and two walks.

Wesson tried to put up a good fight but too many errors gave the Lady Bulldogs the edge to pull the win.

The Lady Cobras also struggled at bat and only got four hits from Kayla Britt- 1 single, Bailey Middleton- 1 single, Harmoni Ashley- 1 double and Sarah Robinson- 1 single. Middleton, short stop, was a top fielder that averaged six outs which kept the Lady Bulldogs from running up the score. Centerfield Aurianna Vaughn also protected the outfield with 4 outs.

In junior varsity action, The Lady Cobras beat the Lady Bulldogs 4-0 Thursday afternoon. Wesson’s Melody Ashley and Kaitlyn Smith were the top hitters with a double and single each.
