Bobcats fall to Cathedral

BOGUE CHITTO – Senior Brock Roberts brought his “A” game on the mound for Bogue Chitto Tuesday as the Bobcats lost a defensive battle 4-0 against their district rivals Natchez Cathedral.

Bogue Chitto will be back in action on April 3 as they travel to Natchez to take on the Green Waves of Natchez Cathedral.

The Bobcats and the Green Waves renewed the rivalry in baseball Tuesday night as both team brought plenty of defensive plays to entertain the crowd. It was mostly a pitcher duel throughout the baseball game.

Brock Roberts came out strong with three strikeouts with the first three batters for Cathedral. Brooks Ingle got the first hits for the Bobcats. Steven Ginn got a hard hit straight to the third baseman to get the third out of the inning, leaving Ingle on base. In the second inning, Brock came out slinging again. He struck out the first Green Waves. The Bobcats retired the next two batters as well to end the inning. Cathedral’s defense was on their “A” game as well. Cathedral’s pitcher Thomas Garitty retired the first two batters for the Bobcats.

In the third inning, the Bobcats’ defense had their first hiccup. The Green waves took advantage and scored on a error by the Bobcats catcher. The Bobcats had another hiccup in the fifth inning, and the Green Waves took advantage and scored again. At the end of five innings the Green Waves had a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats.

In the sixth inning, the Green Waves came out rolling with a bang-bang play and helped in their favor. Andrew Beesley for Cathedral got a RBI when he got a based hit to left field. Beesley was able to score on a error to add to the score. At the end of the sixth inning Natchez Cathedral had a 4-0 lead over the Bogue Chitto Bobcats.

Cameron Price lead the Bobcats defense with several outstanding defensively plays to get the Bobcats out of several binds. The losing pitcher for the night was Brock Roberts. He had 11 strikeouts and one walk. The Bobcats had two total hits and five errors. The winning pitcher was Thomas Garitty for the Green waves. He had nine strikeouts and one walk. The Green Waves had four runs, five total hits and one error.

Offensively for the Bobcats, Brooks Ingle had the only two hits for the Bobcats. Both hits were singles. Offensively for the Green waves, Andrew Beesley had a single. Craig Bradley had two singles. Turner Jannette had two singles as well.
