Wesson bites Lady Chiefs

TYLERTOWN – The Wesson Lady Cobras secured a huge 5-3 win over the Tylertown Lady Chiefs in Region 7-3A softball action Tuesday night.

The Lady Cobras (9-3-1, 2-1), coached by Jackie Johnson, return home to host the South Pike Lady Eagles today for another big district test. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6 p.m.

The Lady Cobras managed to overcome a sluggish offensive start and rallied back by outscoring the Lady Chiefs 4-0 to secure the win.

Carrie McSweyn was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with two strikeouts and two walks.

Angel Thornton took the loss for the Lady Chiefs with two strikeouts and four walks.

Kayla Britt and Harmoni Ashley were the offensive leaders for Wesson with two singles apiece. Abby Meredith and Aurianna Vaughn each hit safely.

Markia Quinn powered Tylertown’s offense with four singles. Paige Harvey contributed a double and a single. Hitting safely were TyTianna Magee, Alanah Crain, April Dixon and Angel Thornton.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Cobras nipped the Lady Chiefs 3-1.

Hailey Chassion tossed the victory for Wesson with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Melody Ashley paced the Lady Cobras at the plate with a double. Kaitlyn Smith had a single.
