Minor, Vardaman selected for All-Star Game

Copiah-Lincoln sophomores Ashley Minor and Michael Vardaman have been selected to participate in the MACJC All-Star Basketball Games on Friday, April 11 on the campus of East Central Community College. The women’s game will tip off in Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s game will follow at 7:00 p.m.

MINOR

Minor finished second on the team by averaging 12.5 points per game this season for Coach Gwyn Young. The 5-foot-6 guard was second on the team with a 5.0 rebounds per game average. The Natchez native also led the team in assists by averaging 2.4 a game. Minor was named MACJC Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 27-Feb. 1. For that week she averaged 21 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Minor was also named MACJC Second Team All-State and NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament.

Joining Minor on the South Division women’s squad are Samara Dingiswayo, MS Gulf Coast; Rajee McDonald, Hinds; Tannijha Hughes, East Central; Katrina Littlepage and April Levy, both of Southwest; Kristin Sampson and Miaya Crowder, both of Meridian; Kaylan Hughes and Latisha McCullum, both of Jones County; and Shanta’ Echols and Kalisha Washington, both of Pearl River.

Alternates are Deantra Darjean of Pearl River, Hellanisa Young of MS Gulf Coast and Jessica Wilson of Copiah-Lincoln. Brent Harris of Southwest will serve as head coach.

VARDAMAN

VARDAMAN

Vardaman finished second on the team by averaging 12.7 points per game this season for Coach Kenny Bizot. The 6-foot guard was second on the team with a 4.0 rebounds per game average. Vardaman, a native of Lula and a graduate of the Mississippi Job Corps., averaged 2.2 assist per game.

Joining Vardaman on the South Division men’s team are Terrance Mujahid and Jacques Johnson, both of East Central; Dela Mayers, Hinds; Johnny Zuppardo, Jones County; Twymond Howard and Deione Weeks, both of Southwest; Corey Brister, Meridian; and Roger Woods, Chris Bilbo and Rashad Perkins, all of MS Gulf Coast.

Alternates are Devontai Foye of Pearl River, and Leo Garrett and Darris McClendon, both of Jones County. Casey Carter of Southwest will serve as head coach.
