Lady Cobras edge Tylertown

WESSON- The Wesson Lady Cobras hosted the Tylertown Lady Chiefs Tuesday night. The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Chiefs with a close win of 8-7 to earn second place in the Region 7-3A race.
The Lady Cobras will host West Lincoln on Thursday. This is the last home game for the Lady Cobras and the seniors will be recognized before the varsity game. Junior varsity softball starts at 5 p.m. and varsity softball play starts at 6 p.m.

The Lady Cobras pulled the win against the Lady Chiefs Tuesday night and secured the No. 2 spot before going into state playoffs with a final score of 8-7.
Wesson coach Jackie Johnson stated, “We hit well to overcome our errors. The bottom of our batting order hit exceptionally well which helped us out.”
Lady Cobras’ pitcher, Carrie McSweyn, had one strikeout, no walks and fielded four outs.
Wesson’s top batter was Amber Brinson who hit a triple and two singles and averaged 1 RBI. Kayla Britt hit two doubles and Sabria Green hit a double, a single and averaged 2 RBIs. Wesson also got hits from the following: Sarah Robinson – two singles, Harmoni Ashley – single, and Bailey Middleton – single. First base and right field were hot tonight with Harmoni Ashley and Abby Meredith fielding four outs each.
Lady Chiefs’ pitcher, Gee Holmes, pitched the loss with two strikeouts and one walk. Close out pitcher, Angel Thornton, had no walks nor strikeouts against the Lady Cobra batters.
Top hitters for the Lady Chiefs were Gee Holmes- two singles (RBI-2) and Alisha Fortenberry- two singles (RBI-2).
In junior varsity action, the Lady Cobras beat the Lady Chiefs 10-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Wesson’s pitcher Amber Brinson threw one strikeout and walked one. Hayley Chassion was the closing pitcher and averaged three strikeouts and no walks.
Top hitter for Wesson was Melody Ashley who hit two singles.
Lady Chiefs’ pitcher, Sankerra Allen, averaged one strikeout and five walks. Sabrea James closed out the game for the Lady Chiefs with three strikeouts. Allen was the only hitter of the game with a single.
