The Pascagoula Panthers overpowered the Brookhaven Panthers to escape with 7-2 win Thursday night in the opening round of the Class 5A state playoff at Moyer Field.

“Pascagoula did a good job capitalizing on our mistakes in the fifth inning,” said BHS coach Randy Spring. “We had several opportunities to get back into the game but failed to push in the run when we had runners on base. Now, we must regroup and focus on winning tomorrow’s game to bring it back here Saturday.”

Brookhaven (16-13) will travel to Pascagoula today for Game Two. Game time is set to start at 6 p.m. If a Game Three is needed it will return to Brookhaven Saturday and start at 3 p.m.
