Bogue Chitto eliminates West Lowndes

COLUMBUS – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats finished off the West Lowndes Panthers 3-2 Friday night to complete a two game sweep in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A state baseball playoffs.

“It is great to get the win,” said BC coach Russ Carter. “We started the game off a little sluggish, but we managed to pick up the tempo offensively to get the job done. Brock Roberts did a good job competing on the mound, which helped us stay in the contest. Overall, I was pleased with the guys effort.”

The Bobcats (10-14) advance to the second round of the playoffs and will have to travel Thursday to play French Camp. Bogue Chitto returns home to host French Camp Friday for Game Two. If a Game Three is needed it will be played Saturday at French Camp. Game times have not been set at the moment.

Bogue Chitto 3, West Lowndes 2 

The Bobcats battled through a tough defensive contest Friday night and managed to complete a two game sweep over West Lowndes.

Bogue Chitto got on the scoreboard first in the second inning as they pushed across two run to take a 2-0 lead.

West Lowndes rallied back in the bottom of the second inning and cut down BC’s lead at 2-1 and later tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning at 2-all.

The Bobcats managed to put together a string of hit in the top of the seventh inning to push across the potential game winning run and held off the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.

Brock Roberts was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats with 10 strikeouts and six walks.

Senior Keith Wells was the offensive leader at the plate for Bogue Chitto with two singles. Steven Ginn contributed a double and Landon Roberts had a single.
