Union swarms through Enterprise

UNION – In Round Two of the battle of Yellowjackets, Enterprise suffered a heart-breaking season ending loss to Union 8-2 in Game Two of the Class 2A state baseball race.

“We played much better last Friday night compared to Thursday night,” said Enterprise coach Cass Brister. “Union just outplayed us. They have a very good teams and I feel like they will go deep into the playoffs.

“I hate that our season has ended,” continued Brister. “But we have a good nucleus coming back and I am already looking forward to next year.”

Enterprise finished their youthful season with a 10-14 record overall, but were the champs in the Region 8-2A race with an 8-2 record.

Union 8, Enterprise 2 

Union came out and quickly overpowered Enterprise to grab a 7-0 lead in the first three innings of action.

In the fourth inning, the Enterprise managed to get their offense going and break up Union’s bid of a shut out as they pushed across two runs and cut down the lead to 7-2

Enterprise threatened on several occasion to rally back but failed to come closer as Union defended their attack to secure the win.

Jake Rawson was the winning pitcher for Union with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Josh Hardin suffered the defeat on the mound for Enterprise with three strikeouts and three walks.

Alex Stafford was the top hitter for Enterprise at the plate with a double. Hitting safely were Layne Brown and Conner Smith.

Austin Hood powered Union’s offense with two singles. Dustin Bales had a double. Ryan Baysinger, Adam Richardson, Grant Gibbs and Rawson hit safely.
