Loyd Star banquet honors athletes

Loyd Star’s faculty, coaches and family honored the Hornet athletes with a banquet to honor the football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, golf, baseball, cheerleader, softball and tennis teams Wednesday night.

Loyd Star principal Robin Case opened the ceremony welcoming the large crowd to the banquet that was held at the Lincoln County Civic Center.

After the meal, coaches recognized their team’s achievements during the year and players were given awards for their hard work.

Peyton Flowers received the Most Valuable Player award in football. Bradley Archer won the overall Most Valuable Player award in boys’ soccer.

Lesley Walker received the Most Valuable Player award in girls’ soccer. Caleb Windham secured the boys MVP in golf. Autumn Cronin earned the girls’ Most Valuable Player in golf.

Marcey Givens was honored as the Best Offensive Player in girls’ basketball. Julie Smith received the Best Defensive Player honor in girls’ basketball. Jordan Shelby earned the Best Rebounder award.

Edrick Alsworth and Caleb Yarborough were selected as the Best Offensive Players in boys’ basketball. Alsworth won the Best Rebounder award.

La’Treall Smith and Ethan Newman collected the Best Defensive Player award in boys’ basketball.

Seth Farmer captured the Most Outstanding Player honors in baseball. Caleb Yarborough secured the Most Outstanding Pitcher Award and the Defensive Player of the Year awards in baseball. Peyton Flowers also received the Most Outstanding Pitcher Award honor. Ali Gartman was honored with the Most Valuable Player award in softball. Abigail Thornton won the Golden Glove award in softball.

Lani Smith aced the Most Valuable girls singles. Tyler Dunn netted the Most Valuable boys. Faith Bergeron and Caylee Grace Yarborough received the Most Valuable team doubles award.

KenBriana Foster earned the Best All Around, Leadership and Coaches awards in cheerleading.

Before the end of the ceremony, Hornets’ Athletic Director Billy Vaughn presented two special awards. He recognized two seniors with the Scholar-Athlete Award: Haleigh Hux and Tyler Dunn.

Case closed the ceremony, thanking the athletes, coaches and families for all of their hard work and accomplishments in another wonderful season at Loyd Star.
