McComb Americans overpower McComb Nationals

In a battle of unbeatens, the McComb Americans proved to be the stronger team in Tuesday night contest as they overpowered the McComb Nationals to secure a 7-1 victory in the Dixie Youth Baseball District Six Major League Tournament at Keystone Park.
The same two teams will play again today for the championship starting at 6 p.m. at Keystone Park. If a decisive game three is needed, it will immediately follow.
Only one team will be allowed to advance to the state tournament, which is held at Magee, starting July 11.
McComb AL 7, McComb NL 1
Several area baseball fans gathered to witness a great battle between two McComb teams. Both teams came out strong to start the contest, but the Americans managed to gain the upper hand in the bottom of the first inning by grabbing an early 3-0 lead to set the tone of the contest.
The McComb Americans’ defense rose to the challenge and managed to overpower their counterparts, the McComb Nationals, as they held the Nationals scoreless in four innings of action.
On offense, the Americans continued to wear down the Nationals’ defense as they added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to secure a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Nationals finally managed to get their offense going as they broke up the Americans’ bid for a shutout by pushing one run across the plate in their attempt to rally back into the contest.
The Americans responded to the Nationals’ threat in the bottom of the fifth inning and increase their lead by plating two extra runs to claim a 7-1 lead and held on for win after six innings of action.
Edric Lewis was the winning pitcher for the Americans with three strikeouts and two walks.
Cade Rush suffered the setback for the Nationals with three strikeouts and one walk.
Cody Roberts provided the offensive spark to lead the Americans with two singles. Hitting safely were Conner Wilson, Kaden Easley, Brady Whitaker and Ray Ray Hughes.
Canden Grantham was the top hitter for the Nationals with three singles. J.P. Johnson, Josh Henderson, Jaylen Bates, Cade Rush and Andrew Durr hit safely.
