Man charged in several robberies in area, region

Germarker D. Smith, of Hattiesburg, was charged Tuesday morning by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department in an armed robbery at 84 Chevron convenience store located off of Interstate 55.

According to the timeline they have compiled, law officers believe Smith robbed the Exxon station west of I-55 near Summit Sunday morning around 4 a.m., the 84 Chevron at 4:40 a.m. and another gas station in Hattiesburg Monday morning,.

All three robberies involved the thief displaying or discharging a weapon, although no injuries of any kind were reported.

Officers were dispatched Monday morning to investigate the robbery in Hattiesburg and located Smith as well as the vehicle that was described by the gas station clerk in Hattiesburg and the cashier at 84 Chevron.

Sheriff Steve Rushing said Smith has an extensive criminal background that involves other robberies as well as several assault charges in Jackson.

Smith is being held in the Forrest County Jail and is in the process of being charged with three counts of armed robbery and is also wanted on felony warrants in Clinton.
