Two with Brookhaven ties at top in Miss Mississippi
Two young women with Brookhaven ties – Miss Mississippi State University Laura Lee Lewis and Miss Riverland Jasmine Murray – were named named first runner-up and Miss Mississippi, respectively, Saturday night in the state pageant in Vicksburg.
First runner-up Lewis is a Brookhaven native who graduated from Brookhaven High School in 2011 and is currently pursuing a degree in elementary education at MSU. She is the daughter of Mark and Lorin Lewis.
Miss Mississippi Murray graduated from the Mississippi School of the Arts. The Columbus native is currently pursuing a broadcast communication degree at Mississippi State.
During the preliminary portion of the pageant, Lewis and Murray tied in talent. Lewis, whose talent is vocal, was also chosen as a Quality of Life scholarship finalist Friday night. Lewis was named second-runner up in 2013 as Miss West Central Mississippi.
Murray’s talent is also vocal, and she has previously been a part of the top 13 of American Idol. Murray also won swimwear in the preliminary competition.
