Brookhaven Teens let ‘er rip at Brookstock Friday.

Musicians jammed in front of a full house in the Haven Theater in the teenage version of Brookstock while parents, friends and fans of music applauded the young performers after every song.

Friday night began with the smooth sounds of Jonas Raguse’s acoustic guitar, followed by Out of Nowhere, who covered big hits such as Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the night was capped off with local recording artist Sam Mooney (please see a related story on Mooney’s new album on this page).

This is the first and far from the last performance of the younger generation of Brookstock, if the reception the young artists received from local fans is any indicator.

All proceeds from Friday night’s performance at the Haven will go to Brookhaven Little Theatre’s teen productions.

After the Teen Brookstock performances, and music at local businesses, Recess 101 and Magnolia Blues BBQ Company on Friday night, the main act of the weekend-long local music festival, the 14th Annual Brookstock, got underway Saturday night at the Brookhaven Recreation Department.

The music was still playing as of The Daily Leader’s Sunday press time Saturday night.

Brookstock is an annual musical event that began when a local band made up of high school student performed together again for the first time in 30 years at a reunion in 1998. The idea of coming back to perform in Brookhaven caught on, they’ve been getting together to perform each July.
