Funeral Services for Johnnie Lee Greer Newman of Ruth are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Jones Family Funeral Home with burial in Rawls Family Cemetery on Cole Road. The Rev. Dewitt Davis will officiate. Jones Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Jones Family Funeral Home and continues on Wednesday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Newman, 78, died Aug. 2, 2014, at Courtyard Nursing and Rehab. She was born on Nov. 12, 1935, in Marion County to B.L. Greer and Edith Switcher Greer.

She was a retired waitress and worked for Don’s Seafood in Baton Rouge for many years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank Newman; one daughter, Wanda Newman Taylor; one brother, Rex Greer; two grandchildren, Amber Boone and Christian Marie Thornton; and one brother-in-law, L.V. Brister.

Survivors are her three sons, Steve Newman of Hattiesburg, Mark Newman of Baton Rouge and Gary Newman and wife, Rhonda, also of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Gaye Newman Thornton of McComb; one brother, Bobby Greer and wife, Alma, of Columbia; two sisters, Betty Greer Brister of Summit and Reba Ann Davis and husband, Dewitt, of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
